Match Report 19 Feb

The bay 11’s played Southport Labrador at Sam Loxton number 3 on Pink Stump Day. It was a great morning and the guys were ready to go in their pink shirts supplied by Computerised Embroidery. Jacob is the captain for the match and as is our teams way we lost the toss and were asked to bowl. The boys started off well with Harley taking a wicket in the second over to have Southport at 1 for 1 caught behind by Joel. The bowling was tight up to drinks when Southport were 2 for 23 of 20 overs. After the forty overs in the heat and humidity Southport finished at 5 for 74.

Wickets were taken by Harley and Kivin got two. There was also 2 run outs by Oliver and Alek. Overall a good mornings cricket and great effort by the Bay 11’s in hot conditions.

Match Report - 12th Feb

The bay 11 started week 2 of our game against tamborine at Chris Wills Oval needing to score 99 to win.

Mitchel and James opened the batting are got us of to a great start with both boys making it through their 8 overs and retiring. The boys set a pattern that would be followed for the day with 4 of the 5 batting pairs batting through their overs. After our 40 overs we had only lost 1 wicket and had put 254 runs on the board with contributions form everyone.

Scores for the day were Mitchel 16, James 28, Oliver 18, Jordan 2, Jonathan 18, Jacob 13, Harley 2, Ethan 18, Alek 31 and Joel 33.

It was great to watch and to be part of. A job well done by all.

Match Report - 5 Feb

The Bay 11’s played Tamborine at Chris Wills number 3 this week. It was the first day of a two day match. I must say their new sports facility looked great, but I am a little bias. Mitchell is our captain for the day and he won the toss and elected to Bowl. This decision was a master stroke when Joel took a wicket in the first over and then Jonathan took a wicket in the 8th over to have the home side at 2 for 8 off 8 overs. Tamborine put on a couple of good partnerships and began to rebuild their innings and eventually batted out their forty overs to be 7 for 98. Wickets were taken by Joel (2), Alek, Harley, Jonathan (2), Kivin.

Next week we get to try and chase down 99 runs from 40 overs. If we can bat out our overs we should go well.

Good Luck Boys.

Match Report - Round 5

Day One

The bay 11’s started a two day game against Coomera Hope Island White at Pac Pines this week. Our captain for the match is Oliver and unfortunately he came second at the toss. Coomera elected to bat. This has been a common pattern in our games where we loss the toss and the opposition bat but we win the game, time will tell.

The Pac Pines ground is a picturesque ground with its white picket fence, but it is small and has a very fast outfield. Our boys bowled well and the Coomera boys batted well. It was a good contest. After 40 overs Coomera were 4 for 157. Again we did bowl a few too many wides and no balls with 64 extras in their score. Let’s hope that they give them back next week. Wickets this week went to Mitchell, Joel, Ethan and Jonathan. The fielding practice we did during the week was evident with the boys showing the new skills. A special mention must go to James who provided two excellent efforts in the field, the first a direct hit for the boundary which produced a very close not out call for a run out and a brilliant outfield catch that was well on its way to the boundary. I suspect that it may be the catch of the season.

All together the Bay 11’s did well and I think on a small field with some good running and calling we are a real chance to chase this score to keep our winning streak alive.

Day Two

The bay 11's resumed the second day of their match under grey skies but surprisingly started on time. We commenced our run chase needing to score 157 runs in 40 overs. Jacob and James started us off well with both boys keeping their wickets in tack before retiring. Harley came and went which brought Joel and Alek together until Alek retired. Mitchell and Lleyton were dismissed before the 20 over mark when the rain set in to end the game.

We finished at 3 for 78 off our 20 overs. Runs were scored by James 12, Jacob 2, Alek 23, Joel 12 and Lleyton 2.

The game ended in a draw but would have been a close match if we got to finish. Overall the boys played well both weeks.

Match Report - Round 4

Day 1

The Bay 11’s started round 4 which is a two day game against Palm Beach Currumbin Gold at The Coombabah Primary School. Palmy won the toss and decided to bat. This suited us as the grass was long and our captain Jonathan had decided to bowl, so all good. We started well with a wicket to James, caught by Harley in the second over. The boys then got a couple of run outs to have the opposition in trouble early. Half way through our bowling innings we had Palmy at 6 for 49 and looking to wrap up the innings. One of Palmy batsmen batted very well and hit a well compiled 31 which helped them recover their innings. They managed to bat out their 40 overs to be 8 for 130. It was a long morning in the field but the boys stuck to their task well only allowing one batsmen to make double figures. Wickets for the day were taken by James, Alek, Jonathan and Ethan.

Next week we will set about chasing what is certainly a gettable target for our batting line up.

Day 2

The bay 11’s played the second day of their match against Palmy Gold this week. We were chasing their total of 130 from 40 overs. We opened with Harley and Ethan but unfortunately we lost a couple of early wickets when both our openers got run out leaving us at 2 for 13 in the fourth over. This brought Joel and Alek to the wicket and the pair started the recovery of our innings. Both the boys batted well before they both retired on 21 runs. Mitchell and Lleyton batted well and managed a small partnership before they were dismissed. Kivin came and went without troubling the scorers and we had stumbled again to be 5 for 77. Unfortunately the wickets kept falling and when Jacob was out we were 9 for 84 and in a bit of trouble. Alek rejoined James who hung around for a well compiled 7 whilst Alek continued to bat with style and the boys took the score to within a few runs of our target when James fell leaving us only one wicket in hand and needing a couple of runs to win. Joel rejoined Alek to see us home for a win before Alek was run out to end the innings. Alek finished the game with a great score of 50 against his name and Joel finished with 22 not out. This was Alek’s first dismissal for the season and Joel is yet to be dismissed. In the end it was a very close game and it was certainly exciting with the game coming down to the wire.

Match Report - Round 4

The Bay 11’s started round 4 which is a two day game against Palm Beach Currumbin Gold at The Coombabah Primary School. Palmy won the toss and decided to bat. This suited us as the grass was long and our captain Jonathan had decided to bowl, so all good.

Half way through our bowling innings we had Palmy at 6 for 49 and looking to wrap up the innings. One of Palmy batsmen batted very well and hit a well compiled 31 which helped them recover their innings.

They managed to bat out their 40 over’s to be 8 for 130. It was a long morning in the field but the boys stuck to their task well only allowing one batsmen to make double figures. Wickets for the day were taken by James, Alek, Jonathan and Ethan.

Next week we will set about chasing what is certainly a gettable target for our batting line up.

Match Report - Round 3

Day 1

The Bay 11’s played the first day of their match against Queens at Dux Oval this week. The boys were very keen to get on the field following their first match win the week before. Harley was the captain for the match and unfortunately came second at the coin toss and Queens elected to bat. The boys continued on from last week with another brilliant bowling performances with all players contributing. Queens were bowled out in the 33rd over for 82 runs. As the saying goes “ a straight ball is a good ball” is certainly true and especially in under 11’s. Wickets were taken by Ethan, Jacob, Jonathon, Jordan, Kivin, Mitchel, and Alek. The other boys bowled very tightly, with Oliver bowling three over’s for just one run, well done.

We had approximately 30 minutes of play left in the day which gave us 9 over’s to bat. We opened the batting with Joel and Alek. The boys saw off the over’s in great style and put on an unbeaten opening partnership of 42 runs. Joel is 14 not out and Alek is 19 not out. The boys will now hand over the batting to the rest of the team to chase down the remaining 41 runs next week off 31 over’s.

Overall it was a great days play from the whole team with all player contributing. It was certainly great to watch. Good luck for the rest of the match.

Day 2

The Bay 11’s resume the second day of their match against Queens at no wicket for 42 runs, needing a further 41 runs to win the match from 31 over’s. The boys batted very well and took only a further 9 over’s to obtain the target. The boys then batted on to the end of their 40 over’s to be 8 for 135. A really great batting display. Kivin and Lleyton batted solidly before Lleyton was dismissed for 7 and Kivin retired for 9. Jonathon and Oliver then took up the attack to the bowlers before Jonathon was dismissed for 5. Other contributions were made by Jacob and Ethan. Joel resumed with a few over’s left to bat and finished not out 18 along with Oliver not out on 16. Alek also finished the match not out on 19. Alek is yet to be dismissed for the season. Keep going Alek.

With a little over half an hour of play left in the day we had another bowl. There was sufficient time for one over each. After 11 over’s Queens were 5 down for 22 runs. Wickets were taken by Oliver (2 for 0), Kivin, Lleyton and one run out. This gave Oliver match figures of 4 over’s, 2 wickets for 1 run, Lleyton 4 over’s, 3 wickets for 6 run and Kivin 4 over’s, 3 wickets for 6 runs.

A really great effort with both the bat and the ball from all the guys but the stand out player of the match was Oliver who had a super game.

Well done to you all.

Match Report - Round 2

Finally the rain gods were on our side and Runaway Bay under 11’s played Mudgeeraba Nerang Blue at Coombabah Primary School in a 28 over one day match. Our captain for the day, Alek won the toss and we elected to bowl.

All the guys bowled nice and straight with the stand out performance by Jacob who took 3 wickets for 5 runs off his 3 overs. Wickets were also taken by Alek, Harley, Oliver and Lleyton. At 28 overs Mudgeeraba were 7 for 65.

The Bay boys batted very well and the running between the wickets was excellent with a number a sneaky singles taken. The batsman of the day was our captain Alek who was our top scorer with 14 not out including 3 boundaries. Other not out batsmen for the day were Lleyton, Oliver, Jacob and Ethan.

It was a great all round effort by the team and a fun start to the season
