Match Report - Round 4

Day 1

Batting first against a very strong Broadbeach side, our boys were rolled in 11 overs for just 32 runs. Broadbeach then went on to put on a lead of 140 runs, our boys bowling them out for 170 in the 41st over.

No performance details are available, sorry.

Day 2

Up against the wall, our under 14 boys were set a target of 138 to make a strong Broadbeach Robina side bat again. A valiant effort saw them reach 108 from 36 overs, but unfortunately fell just short of the mark, with Broadbeach taking the points this week. No performance details are available on MyCricket, sorry.

Match Report - Round 3

Day 1

We won the coin toss and decided to bat and we got off to a slow start, only 10 runs of the first 13 overs without loss of a wicket then after 25 overs we were all out for just 68 runs was not a great start.

So Helensvale turn to bat we had them 1-0 then 2-1 then 3-5 with great bowling from Shawn Cavangh with figures 5-10 off 5 overs and Cooper Sands with figures 2-2 of 4 overs we bowled them out for 68 a very close draw and this is day 1 so the boys are pumped and ready for day 2 this weekend.

Day 2

Our second innings was much stronger, declaring at 6/118 after 25 overs. Helensvale Pac Pines batted their 24 overs and finished at 6/84. Well done boys on bowling so well!

Cricket Legend Sam Loxton passes away

We are very sad to report that Australian Cricket legend and club stalwart Sam Loxton has passed away on Saturday morning.

Sam was a member of the 1948 "Invincibles", the undefeated Australian cricket side that toured Engand in that year.  He played 12 tests for Australia, including scoring 101 against South Africa in Johannesburg in 1949 for his only Test hundred amongst his 554 Test runs at 36.93.  He was a Test selector between 1972 and 1981, and also was involved in politics.

Loxton also played 41 VFL matches for St Kilda, kicking 114 goals before switching to cricket in 1946.

An honourary member of our club, Sam was warmly welcomed down at the club, and took great pride in watching the Gold Coast Cricket games on Sam Loxton Oval from "Sammy's Corner".  He was a great participant in Gold Coast Cricket, umpiring and being involved throughout the years, and even up until the last few months of his life he was still able to be seen at the club.

Last year Runaway Bay welcomed sam as an honorary life member, and together with Southport Labrador started playing for the Sam Loxton Shield, an award given to the winner of the premier grade fixture between the two clubs - something that will no doubt last for many years to come in Sam's honour

Farewell Details

Relatives and friends of the late Samuel Loxton OBE are warmly invited to attend Prayers of Christian farewell, to be held in the chapel of St Alban the Martyr, The South port School, Winchester Street south port Gold Coast on Friday the 9th of December, 2011 commencing at 2pm.

Below are a few articles and tributes about Sam.
