5/2/11 - Vs Queens

We ventured to Queens for the first time this week sitting in 9th position. Queens are sitting around 6th but we are really well matched up and usually our games result in a close win to them. This time I would really, really, really like to reverse that!

We won the toss and bowled first on a wicket that one of the boys said “Is this OK to play on?” (One for you Phil - Our boys are spoiled!!!)

They ended up with 161, which was probably 20odd too much. Our bowling lacked accuracy with way too many deliveries down leg and we put down a few catches.

There were some really good periods, with Stevo (3) and Broady (2) getting a few wickets and Travs apprentices - Spills and Zano picking up 1 each, along with 4 really good catches being held (Jack, Eden and Boof -2).

This week is our chance to have a crack at a very achievable total. Let’s put it together in the nets and serve it up to them on Saturday!

Match Report - Round 4

Day 1

Taking on Palm Beach at Salk, we were sent in to bat finished on 136 from 45 overs. 26 from Steve Charalambous, 33 from Rory MacInnes and 20 from Machlin Turner were the standout performances.
We’re looking to have Palm Beach on the back foot early and grab an away victory against them.

Day 2

We turned up for our second day against Palmy needing to bowl them out for 136. Unfortunately there was water on the pitch and we were delayed by 40mins. This cut the game down to 46 overs and the total to 116. At 3/71, Palmy were cruising but our boys stuck at it taking wickets at regular intervals. Palmy finally passed us with 3 overs left at 7/117. They batted the final 3 overs and finished on 8/136.
Lee Fletcher was our best with 2/15 off 8 overs. “Teenager” is on fire this year, with wickets every week and a few runs too. Steve Charalambous, Eden Jepson and Jansen Eadie all bowled well with Billy Roberts, Macka and Rory Mac also pitching in for a wicket each.

I think we were a lot closer to getting this one than the boys realised. If we had of held a couple of crucial catches and got a better call on a doozy of a caught behind, things might’ve been different… But you have to make your own running and we were a bit “sleepy” in the field. In the last 2 games, we have matched it well with both of last years’ finalists and there’s no reason we can’t go on and give the rest of the competition a real shake. We just have to make it happen!

Match Report - Round 3

Day One

Saturday saw us up against MNDCC at Sam Loxton. They have been grand finalists for the last few years so we were always in for a tough game.

We lost the toss and were asked to bowl. After 15 overs we had them 1/32 and we were looking good. From there, we lost our way a little by not bowling to our field, dropping catches and miss fielding. Don’t mention bowling too many free deliveries in front of the coach! We did that 31 times… (7 no-balls and 24 wides!)

We did show some ticker and fight back in the last session. They went from 4/177 to end up 8/194 after 55 overs. It was good to see the boys dig in and grab some wickets. The momentum of the game changed and all of a sudden we had a chance of bowling them out. All of our bowlers did well with Mitch Broady (2/28) and Boof (3/33) taking the honours.

We need to take that momentum into this week and put in a good run chase. They are a really handy bowling side but if we play smart, we can give this total a shake…

Day Two

We turned up for our second day against MNDCC chasing 195 to win. Fair to say we were in trouble at 3/12 off 12 overs… Losing wickets regularly makes a target this size difficult but if you can get a couple of partnerships going, momentum starts to change. And that’s what happened with Zane and Kieran then later with Lee and Kieran.

I think we zoned out, looking at the end target instead of closer, smaller targets - say 5 over chunks, then re-assess the run chase, trying to build pressure and momentum…

We were finally bowled out for 114 in the 43rd over but looking closer, Mudgee were 5-6 overs slow (add 6 penalty runs per over = 30-36 runs) plus the 6 overs we fell short (at say 4 runs per over = 24 runs) and all of a sudden we weren’t that far away!

The game isn’t over till it’s over or till we give in and unfortunately, I think too many boys who could’ve/should’ve done better, gave in early on Saturday… We needed to focus on the job at hand, which was the run chase and not the end target.

Kieran was very patient for 55 whilst Zano and Lee pitched in for 11 and 13 respectively.

Over all, Mudgee outplayed us but there were some positives to come out of it, so we will aim to train like we want to play and give Palmy a crack on Saturday.

Match Report - Round 2

A good effort first up for the boys. We travelled to Southport-Labrador’s ground to face the Southport-Labrador/Burleigh team. It was a good day and the pitch looked good for batting. We won the toss and that is just what we did.

The call nearly ended up back-firing on us as the only player to get past 10 runs was Jansen Eadie who got 33 runs off 43 balls, the next highest scorer was sundries on 20. We ended up 8 for 85 off 26 overs.
Lucky we were bowling well today. We got 4 quick wickets in the first 9 overs. Then steadily got another 4 wickets for 41 runs. Wickets came from Jansen who was spinning it square, using every ball in his arsenal. He got 3 for 9 off 5 overs, including 2 maidens. Lee Fletcher also bowled well ending up with figures of 2 for 11 of 5. Special mentions to Zane Enders, Mitchell Broadbent and Eden Jepson who pitched in with a wicket each. Zane also took 2 screamers in the field, as did Eden with a quick reflex catch in the slips.

The result was a win by The Bay by 17 runs and the day belonged to Jansen Eadie. Thanks to Colin Eadie, Darren Hyde and Royce Enders for helping us out while the coach went FISHING. Well Done boys!!!
