We played against Coomera/Hope Island at Beattie Road. Once again Coyne captained the team, winning the toss and batting. That was one of the last things that went right for us.
We were all out for 111 in 33 overs with the only decent innings coming from Troy Maher. He hit 3 * 6’s with an innings of 61. It was an impressive display which could make it difficult to keep him in 5th Grade.
Defending such a total was always going to be difficult and Coomera accomplished the win in only 24 overs with 6 wickets in hand. We can only bet better.

We played Palm Beach/Currumbin at Mallawa Road. Ian Coyne was in charge and won the toss and batted.
Our best opening partnership of the season between Coyne and Graham Reynolds put on 41 before a good piece of fielding saw Coyne run out. We put together a score of 140 which was pretty good given difficult batting conditions. The wind was quite severe and caused the ball to dip a lot so all in all the team was happy with the score. Main contributors were Les Daley (who had been moved down from opener) and obviously enjoyed facing the older ball with a fine 36, Darren Williams in his first game of the season 26, Graham 26 and Coyne 21.
Opening bowlers Rory and Amit did a great job with Rory bowling out his 7 overs to finish with 3/29. We were very much in the ascendancy at the 17 over break with Palmie 5/69. A good fight back from them saw them get back into the game. Bowling the last few overs were Darren Williams and after one wayward over fought back with some very tight bowling and Coyne. At the start of the last over Palmie needed 8 runs to win and we needed 1 wicket. Success with the 2nd ball with a great catch by Amit. Actually any catch that Amit takes is great and he took 2. Bowling figures were Darren 2/29, Amit 1/17, Jim Griffin 1/20, Priyal 2/17and Coyne 1/21.
Great win by 5th Grade Orange.

We took on Southport Labrador on Loxton 3.
Won the toss and as usual elected to bat. Conditions did suit the bowling with a strong wind giving the bowlers a great advantage. Even still we found ourselves in a state of shock with the score at 7/34 after 14 overs. Amit (back from holidays in India) scored 34 and Colin (back from holidays in Vietnam) scored 17, battled away and with a partnership of 50. This at least provided a total for Southport/Labrador to chase. We set them 95 to win.
Opened with Rory and Krusty and Rory got the initial breakthrough. The next change came with Ian Coyne coming on in the 7th over and promptly taking 2 wickets in his first over. He followed up with another in his 2nd over and we were well and truly in it. The game was evenly poised for much of the match.
If nothing else it was great to get a full days cricket in and welcome Troy Maher and Jessie Wade into the team. Both look promising cricketers. We look forward to better results in the coming weeks.

We played against Broadbeach at home. Broadbeach won the toss and elected to bat. Due to the conditions, the ball swung early and due to the wet outfield, scoring was difficult.
We battled through to 86 runs off 30 overs before coming off due to rain and lightning. At this stage Ian Coyne had scored 40 to hold the innings together. Amazingly, the rain cleared and in fact the light was better so the captains agreed to play it as a 30 over game.
Broadbeach performed well to get the runs in 25 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Coyne the star again with figures of 3/21. Colin Eadie and Rory Solomon were both miserly and took 1/20 and 0/17 off their 7 overs. Les Daley chipped in with a wicket after a pep talk from Travis (filling in the field).
For a change batting first worked against us with the rain intervention. Had we known the game was to be reduced to 30 overs we would have gone after quick runs, but despite the loss, it was so good to get through a game of cricket.

Coming off 2 wins in a row (our best sequence in years) we were confident of beating top of the ladder Mudgeeraba/Nerang.
For the 5th time out of 6 games Colin won the toss and batted. All out for 82 in a rather inept display of batting. Top score to Les of 16 , Coyne 10 not out and Colin 12 until falling over his wicket.
We were unable to break through with Mudgee getting the runs in 16 overs. Thanks to Krusty for filling in and we need to forget this dismal performance and get back in a winning form.

The two teams took on each other on Sunday, with Orange batting first and 5/157, including an unbeaten 51 from Amit Kelovkar, and 32 not out from Col Eadie. Les Daley batted well for 29, and Ian Coyne hit a solid 17. Navy gave the total a chance, however eventually ran out of batsman, finishing on 6/94. Jimmy Brett starring with 50 not out, and Rory Solomon chipping in with 15.

Orange had an easier day against Helensvale, batting first and posting 167 from their 35 overs. Helensvale didn’t quite match up, ended the game at 123 from 32 overs. Sorry there are no performances here, MyCricket is not showing any results at this time.

Our Navy side took on Coomera at Upper Coomera secondary college, bowled first and started will, picking up two early wickets for 7. Unfortunately the enjoyment ended there, with Coomera smashing our bowlers around to finish their 35 overs at 7/381. 3/39 to Wade Gwynne was the highlight, however figures such as 1/87 off 6 for Nathan Rowley, and 0/72 off 7 for Jamie Cullen and Simon Harris 0/24 off 1 over showed how tough things got.
382 was an unrealistic total for our boys, and we couldn’t do too much more than just saddle up for some batting practice. 13 from Jamie, 15 from Wade Gwynne and unbeaten 16 from Kevvy Ward saw us finish at 9/71 from just 15 overs. A tough day for our boys but well done to all for sticking with it and giving it a crack.

5th Grade Orange took on Southport Labrador at home this week, bowled first and struggled to take wickets early in the match. Southport Labrador got to 64 without loss, our bowlers plugging away without success. Jim Griffin was brought on with instant results, and got us back in the game, picking up 4/16 off his 7 overs, but a quickfire 75 from one of the Southport batsman saw the comeback lose touch. Southport finished their 35 overs on 5/169.
It was a solid chase from our boys, Brady Fletcher top scoring with 37, with help from Jim Griffin (30), Nathan Rowley (33 not out) and Robbie Hall (22). After losing a few quick wickets towards the end, our boys finished just short of the total, ending on 6/153.

After a washout against Surfers Paradise Blue the week before, we took on Coomera Hope Island White at Upper Coomera Secondary College.
The boys bowled first and quickly had them on the back foot. Brad Jackson starring with the ball with 3/18 off 7 overs, Kevvy Ward picking up 2/12 off 4, and Jake Knight grabbing 2/25 off 3 overs. The Crocs clawed back after their poor start however our boys eventually finished the job, knocking them over for 175 on the last ball.
