We played against Broadbeach at home. Broadbeach won the toss and elected to bat. Due to the conditions, the ball swung early and due to the wet outfield, scoring was difficult.
We battled through to 86 runs off 30 overs before coming off due to rain and lightning. At this stage Ian Coyne had scored 40 to hold the innings together. Amazingly, the rain cleared and in fact the light was better so the captains agreed to play it as a 30 over game.
Broadbeach performed well to get the runs in 25 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Coyne the star again with figures of 3/21. Colin Eadie and Rory Solomon were both miserly and took 1/20 and 0/17 off their 7 overs. Les Daley chipped in with a wicket after a pep talk from Travis (filling in the field).
For a change batting first worked against us with the rain intervention. Had we known the game was to be reduced to 30 overs we would have gone after quick runs, but despite the loss, it was so good to get through a game of cricket.
